EPA Launches National Waste Segregation Program with JVL

On November 22, 2015, the Ghana Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), under the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, launched the National Waste Segregation Program.

Program Implementation

The programme would be implemented country-wide and the first phase would commence in some selected schools and within the ministries area in Accra.

Three-Bin System

Under the programme, three types of waste bins would be given to each institution within the ministries and the selected schools in Accra. One of the bins would contain paper, another plastics and the last one would contain food waste.

Minister's Address

Dr Joe Oteng-Adjei, the sector Minister, in a speech read for him, said the launch was a fulfilment of Government's national environmental policy and a major step in addressing the solid waste menace in the country.

Jekora Ventures' Partnership

Jekora Ventures are official partners of the program and have donated 50 refuse bins to the Agency, some of which were in turn donated to participating schools and agencies.

Jekora Ventures would be responsible for sensitizing the participating agencies and ensuring timely disposal of the segregated waste to the respective recycling facilities.
